Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshopis a bitmap graphic editor for creating and editing bitmap graphics (such as photos) created by Adobe Systems.

The first version (1.0) was released in February of 1990 for Mac OS under the auspices of Adobe Systems. Currently, the 14th version, available under the label, is availableCreative Cloud(CC). Originally, Photoshop was created by brothers Thomas and John Knoll, who began working on 1987. One of the most important points was the release of the Microsoft Windows operating system in 1996 (version 4.0). The Creative Suite designation used in new versions reflects the fact that Photoshop is integrated with Adobe's Adobe's Creative Suite, including Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. The Creative Cloud designation, just the latest version, indicates that Photoshop is much more integrated in cloud.

Photoshop as a verb

In English, the word is still more commonphotoshop a photoshoppingto digitally edit (especially retouch) pictures and photos in digital form (whether in Adobe Photoshop or another program). This adds to the fact that Adobe Photoshop is one of the best-known programs and a de facto professional standard for editing pictures and photos. However, Adobe is opposed to this connotation.

The new version of Photoshop brings an upgraded user interface featuring pallet anchorage capability, an improved RAW system, better print settings, improved PDF support, and Adobe Bridge. Another very important novelty is the so-called "Smart filters", allowing non-destructive use of filters on the layer and the possibility of later editing.

A major innovation in CS5 is Content-Aware Fill, which allows easy retouching and deleting of objects from the image - Photoshop itself knows how to erase the erased part of the image and replaces it with the content corresponding to the rest of the photo or image. This greatly speeds up, simplifies, and automates many edits that had to be done manually in the past. The speed of the program has also been greatly improved, and it is also using the huge power potential of computer graphics cards. He can use CUDA as a computational power, even for more demanding graphics that require real-time imaging.[1]Additional tools and features have been added at the request of the community.

Photoshop has gone through a radical design change in CS6. At first glance, a new dark skin is set as default, but other user interface elements have been redesigned to meet modern standards and the specific demands of professional users who have called for more persistent and easy-to-use control.

But most of the changes are under the surface, and Photoshop CS6 is really lightning-fast on the previous versions, especially thanks to Mercury Engine's enhancement that uses the graphics card's performance and graphics capabilities to handle photos.

The Content-Aware feature has been enhanced with the most extensive extensions and enhancements, and Content-Aware Patch and Content-Aware Move have been added. The first tool, Patch, works similarly to ContentXAware Fill from CS5, but allows real-time users to choose which part of the image is to be generated by a new blank fill, which allows a higher user quality control of the result without negatively affecting the speed of execution adjustments.

Content-Aware Move is the most advanced tool that will not delete the selected part of the image, but only moves to another part of the image. It replaces the blank space as in the Content-Aware Patch tool and moves the moved object into its new background. None of these tools guarantees the 100% quality of editing on all photos, but in many cases the quality of the changes is consistent with the many-time manual editing. In addition, Content-Aware features can be used by users who still do not control Photoshop with satisfactory results.

AbbreviatedCCthere is a connectionCreative Cloud, a new Adobe business model that it intends to replaceCreative Suiteand which was introduced in May 2012. In this model, the software is accessed not as a product but as a service, and as such it also has a completely new way of financing - users do not pay for the software but for the chance to work on it. For a regular monthly payment, approximately 50 US Dollars are provided with access to all program features, including 2 GB Cloud Space (with the option to add extra 20 GB). If they stop paying, they will immediately get access to the software and all their work stored in proprietary file format, which is not backward compatible with the Creative Suite version.Additionally, access to their cloud will be blocked. This very significant change in Adobe's pricing policy has been positively accepted by the company's shareholders, Adobe itself presents it as an optimistic revolutionary change, but it has prompted negative reactions, including protests and petitions against this change, among tens of thousands of people.Adobe Creative Solutions Vice-President said he understands the user that this is a big change, but Adobe is so focused on the Creative Cloud principles that all innovations will focus and apply to this model.

Output file formats of the program

  • PSD(Photoshop document) - a format that stores individual masks, layers, blends, channels, paths,
  • PSB(Photoshop large document format) - format for large format documents - up to 300 000 pixels in any size and allows to store files larger than 2 GB (must be enabled in settings); listed in Photoshop CS
